The Garden of Words
The story is about a 15-years old teenager Takao Akizuki,who fall in love with a 27-years old lady he met at the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
The lady he meet at the garden is actually his school's literature teacher,Yukino but the teacher was hurt by the rumor spread in the school, which is about she seduce students, but she didn't,it was made up by the female student who jealous her because her boyfriend really like the teacher,Yukino.
So Yukino cease to went to school because of that, she is hesistate about going back to school or should she just resign and go to other school.
Takao didn't know she was the school teacher, but she saw his school uniform and know his is the student at the same school.
So when Takao asked her:
「Have we met before?」
「N-NO」
「Maybe we have,
隱約雷鳴 陰霾天空 但盼風雨來 能留妳在此
Faint Thunder,Cloudy sky. Hope the rain will come, so thou will not leave.」
She left with the front half part of this poet.
This is a really ancient Japanese poet from Man'yōshū (万葉集, literally "Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves" It' completed around AD 800
It's actually a selection in their literature textbook.
Takao find out she is a teacher at school and told her rest of the poet.
A faint clap of thunder; Clouded skies; Perhaps rain comes – if so, will you stay here with me?” A faint clap of thunder; Clouded skies; Even if rain comes not; I’ll stay here, together with you…
This poet is the core of this story.
Takao set the rule that he will he will skip the morning class if it's raining that day, and went to the garden.
So the time they will meet it's always the rainy day.
Takao want to be a shoe maker, and you can see some interesting shot in the movie
I really like the this setting, we wear shoes to walk,to travel, to step forward.
The teacher, Yukino was at a loss, she didn't sure should she went back to the school and keeping teaching or just resign to another school.
She can't move forward
The protangoist Takao also work hard to achieve his dream.
They both want to move forward ,try to cross the obstacle they face,even the obstacle between them.
I really enjoying the begining of this movie
Scenes change between the city and the garden.
What a big contrast!
A quiet and beautiful garden , and the other is crowded and noisy city.

This part is really beautiful, I think here is where their relationship getting closer,but they also realize their distance. You will see the shot when Takao is measuring her foot , she stand on the wood bench, she look down and him, and he look up at her, I think he use this composition to show their obstacle, their age , their experience, even how society will view them . And you can also known this by Takao's monolouge.
So Takao, he want to cross this distancce between them.
He know the age between them will be a big obstacle, he don't want to be seen as a child , so he decided to make a pair of shoes for her, so she can move forward

And after he find out she is his school teacher,
they met at the garden again, and he told her the respond part of that poet
"隱約雷鳴 陰霾天空 即使天無雨 我亦留此地
Faint Thunder,Cloudy sky. Even if the sky is clear, I will stay."
But suddenly a rain storm came

In this scene they just look like a couple , and they both think this might be the happiest moment in their life

It's not Yukino , but Miss. Yukino

She ran out with barefoot.
I think this represent that she didn't stay at the same place anymore, she won't hesiatate , she got the courage to move , to make decision , to act.
Takao give her the shoes(mentally) to move forward!
She also give Takao strengeth to move even further!
So Takao want to become a great shoe maker , become a great person , for her!
Again this composition Yukino is at the higher place
We saw his composition at the part where Takao measure her foot at the garden,
there some obstacle between, age , experience, .etc...
but this time she step down and stand at the same place with him.
There is no more obstacle between,
This time they truly feel each other.
That' what love is
Love eliminate all the distance between.
And it's a really beautiful ending
And he finally made the shoes
「When I look back, I think I was also trying to learn how to move forward. If one day, I can step forward more stable and further, I will go to see her. 」
I really like this movie .
The background , the setting , the lines, the way they use the poet as a connection in the story.
It's a really short and simple love story.
but It's also a really amazingly love story.
